Meg O'Brien likes a challenge. She has worked in a metropolitan hospital, done remote nursing and now works in a regional setting as the nurse unit manager in the emergency department of Orange Base Hospital."I commenced my general hospital training at Canterbury Hospital," she says. "I completed my graduate certificate in emergency nursing and a graduate diploma in midwifery so I could explore remote nursing and join the Royal Flying Doctor Service."O'Brien moved to Orange six years ago and sees many advantages to a rural setting."I love that [the staff] all know each other by name, that the tea ladies and cleaners say 'Hi' to you when you walk past," she says."The director of nursing and general manager come down to the department and speak to the staff by name, which was unheard of in the city hospitals."I also love the fact it takes less time to get to work and we can even ride a pushbike. The parking is easy and I have not received a parking fine since I arrived."
